Mobile World Congress 2022 has recently wrapped in Barcelona. Attendance estimates placed it at 60% of the 2019 pre-COVID levels but this still meant over 61,000 physical attendees.
Taking an ever increasing amount of spotlight sits IoT, AI and 5G with industry reach from Telco to Fintech to Health.
It isn’t all happening overseas though, with New Zealand IoT Alliance members being busy in a number of areas too. Thinxtra and Tether, for example, are improving public safety and health outcomes with air quality monitoring. Tether has a solution to monitor for COVID-19 and other harmful contaminants being put to use in public venues. They are also working with CORT Community Housing to improve living conditions by way of healthier and safer community homes.
The Smart Cities Council Australia and New Zealand also recently announced Spark New Zealand is joining as a member. Building on the work Spark has done with Auckland Transport to bring a smart city environment to the Wynard Precinct. With New Zealand being the first country in the world to have all of its local councils as members of the Smart Cities Council, Aotearoa New Zealand seems to be well positioned to move forward to a future featuring smarter cities.
